Overview:
The combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics program at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks a full-time, board-certified or board eligible Medicine-Pediatrics faculty to expand and enhance clinical services, research, and medical student and resident training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. The program is well-integrated within the departments of Medicine, and Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, each with separate categorical residency training programs. The faculty body of both departments is comprised of diverse academic employed and community faculty. The Med-Peds residency program has 16 residents, internal medicine residency program with 38 residents, and pediatric residency program has 30 residents, fully accredited with all subspecialty care and tertiary care capabilities. The division of Medicine Pediatrics is administratively housed in the department of Medicine.

Responsibilities:
All Medicine-Pediatrics faculty participate in the education of medical students and residents, ongoing scholarly activities, and clinical services in the Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Med-Peds clinics, which are supported by full-time medical social workers, dieticians, and dedicated nursing staff.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Participating in the systems of quality improvement, utilization review, and outcomes
    management.
  • Participating in inpatient and outpatient clinical services as assigned by the department chairs.
  • Working closely with the department chairs for:
    • Recruitment, selection, supervision, education, and evaluation of resident
      physicians.
    • Strategic planning.
    • Regular participation in department and medical school meetings.
    • Providing high-quality instruction for medical education of students and residents as determined by the department chair.
    • Other duties as assigned by the department chair.

Qualifications:
Candidates must have an MD/DO degree, a strong interest for medical student and resident education and scholarly activities and have passion for patient centered clinical care. Leadership and organizational skills are desirable. The candidate must be board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics (or the American Osteopathic Board) and be eligible for full licensure to practice in Michigan. Postgraduate and undergraduate medical education is an integral part of the job, and academic effort proportion will be determined based on individual interest, expertise and need. Faculty in the Department of Pathology serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.

The W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, faculty and administrative offices, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.
